SPORTING ACHIVEMENTS |

Indoor Netball Federation of Queensland
On Wednesday and Thursday last week, two teams competed at the INFQ (Indoor Netball Federation of Queensland). Both NCC teams overcame significant illness and injury to win their divisions, showcasing extraordinary resilience and teamwork. They adapted their strategies and rallied together with unwavering support from netball coaches Ebony Tyler, Sarah Grummett and Bronwyn Farrell. We were impressed by our teams and how they conducted themselves both on and off the court, their unity and determination evident. Both teams produced a hard-fought victory to win their respective divisions, an inspiring example of triumph in the face of adversity. Capri T and Sophie F were presented with "Player of the Tournament".

Independent District Teams
Congratulations to the following students who have been selected in an Independent District Team

Gustav B (Year 9) 13-14 years Futsal
Jayden D (Year 9) 13-14 years Futsal
Ethan L (Year 11) 15-16 years Futsal

School Sport Pathway: Soccer
Last week, Sophie P was in Townsville representing the Sunshine Coast region at the 10-12 years State Soccer trial. Her team played exceptionally well, losing only one game and coming third overall. Sophie was awarded the coaches' choice award for her strong defensive skills that saved many attacks and for her ability to place the ball for her team's attackers to score. Well done, Sophie!

Football Pacific Championships Carnival
Jayden D (Year 9) has been selected to play for the Football Queensland U14 State Team in the 2024 Pacific Championships Carnival in September. We wish you all the best, Jayden!

Well done to you all.

SUNSHINE COAST JUNIOR EISTEDDFOD - JS SPEECH AND DRAMA | Last weekend, NCC's Speech and Drama students represented the college in the Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod with their incredible talent. Despite competing in sections against students up to five years older than them, Farrah M (Year 4), Penelope S (Year 3), Margot Z (Year 3), Hunter G (Year 2), and Stehan B (Year 1) left the adjudicator and the audience impressed and entertained. What an excellent opportunity for these talented students to develop courage, resilience, and grit. We are so proud of you all! Congratulations to the following award winners:

Neighbours Aid board is looking forward to enjoying these great facilities on our board planning day.

Year 11 Camp | Our Year 11 camp, which ran from 23 - 24 July, was an immense success, marked by memorable experiences and invaluable leadership and community service lessons. A highlight of the camp was a visit to Government House. Students had the unique opportunity to engage with expert guides, explore the historical building, and gain insights into the workings of our government. This visit broadened their understanding and inspired many to consider future roles in public service.

After visiting Government House, students faced leadership challenges during their overnight stay in Mapleton. The challenges fostered resilience, teamwork, and personal growth and honed in on problem-solving skills and motivating each other.

Community service was a significant part of the camp. Students actively participated in various local projects, from environmental clean-ups to community centre assistance. Their efforts had a tangible impact on the lives of those they helped. This hands-on involvement underscored the importance of giving back and demonstrated the significant effect of collective action in our communities.

Upon their return, students were found to have a renewed sense of purpose, a deeper appreciation for their roles as active members of society, and a heightened awareness of their potential as future leaders. Here are some overwhelmingly positive comments from community service providers:

We just wanted to share how wonderful the group of young adults were. Their interactions with our participants exceeded all expectations and were highly engaging. They are more than welcome to come back anytime.
- Sunshine Coast Support Services

During their brief visitation, they were all hardworking while remaining friendly and courteous. Nothing was a problem for them, and they eagerly embraced the roles that were asked of them. It was a pleasure having the students with us today. They are a real credit to NCC and their parents, and they reflect an aptitude that I am sure will see them become successful in their chosen future endeavours.
We would be more than happy to have them back (or others) at any future opportunity.

FROG FACT DAY - YEAR 2 | On Tuesday 30 July, the Year 2 students participated in a brilliant Frog Fact Day. With the help of one of our student's dads, Mr Trevor M, we learned a great deal about frogs. We worked really hard all day. We constructed frog habitats out of Lego, investigated what food frogs could find to eat in our school dam, and learnt how to make better habitats for our local frogs.

It was also interesting to hear that cane toads are lazy, not good at jumping, and greedy. They are not good friends to frogs, and we learnt that by building great frog habitats, we also help discourage cane toads from entering the habitats of our native frogs.

Top Tips for Frog Habitats:

Plenty of shade: trees and plants are great for this.
Cool hiding spots: rocks, sedges and pipes are excellent for this.
Yummy frog food: planting flowers that invite other insects provides food for frogs
Messy nature: logs, piles of dead leaves, sticks, and twigs make great places to hang out

SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS | Our very own Bliss W continues to make waves in rugby, and her future looks bright. She remains focused on her goals, balancing her role as a student-athlete with her determination and talent, which show the beginning of a promising career in rugby union.

Bliss’s debut as a member of the Queensland Reds was a momentous occasion for her. They travelled to Tonga at the end of July for a rugby competition. She demonstrated the skills and composure that had earned her this opportunity. Her performance on the field was marked by quick decision-making, impressive tackles, and an innate ability to read the game. The entire Nambour Christian College community is so proud of you, and we look forward to seeing you excel even more.
